Canker sore help please?

I used to get canker sores very infrequently but over the past couple months its been pretty frequent I got them twice and one of the times, they spread in my mouth and there were 3 of them at once. Now I have one that hurts like hell and my throat is sore as well. Does anyone have any ideas as to why I could be getting them so much (smoking possibly?) and if anyone has treatment ideas that would be great. thank you.
